The history of the Villa…
The structure of the Villa Tower Inn hotel bears the name of Villino Marazzini, designed by the engineer Severini Federigo in 1920, structurally characterized by the union of three bodies, different in height and coverage, with the central one formed by a turret-roof closed by a large pitched roof that takes up the theme of the medieval castle.
On the first floor there is a central terrace, with a balustrade of small pillars, decorated with geometric elements.
The front is characterized by the dichotomy of stone and brick, where the former defines the base, the vertical structures and the terminal portions of the complex, the latter material resolves the construction of the infill wall facing.
The rectangular openings in which there are frames, each different from the other, with decorative motifs inspired by medieval Pisan architecture, are interesting, as are some windows divided into two by a column.
Federigo Severini was born in Pisa in 1888.
He has been painting since the age of ten, following his natural inclination and inspired by the evocative environment of Marina di Pisa where his family goes on holiday.
The first commissions for private individuals, villas, hotels and shops, for which he often also designed the furnishings, were followed by public commissions in Pisa.
In 1932 he held his first solo exhibition in the palace at the Day of Pisa.
From 1932 to 1943 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Opera del Duomo for which he led the restoration work of the Cathedral and the Camposanto.
At the end of the fifties he intensified his pictorial activity by exhibiting in various personal and collective exhibitions.
Federigo Severini made his debut as a painter at thirteen with the Casa di Nando (National Museum of San Matteo).
The subjects of his paintings are the places familiar to him: the area of the Pisan countryside between San Rossore and the Pisan Mountains, the countryside towards Marina di Pisa and Bocca d’Arno.
Federigo Severini died in Pisa in 1962.
After his death, prestigious retrospectives were dedicated to him.
